Why Las Cruces Needs a Different Approach

Generic Southwest landscaping advice fails here. Four local conditions shape every job we do.

Caliche hardpanA cemented layer 6–18″ down that stops a shovel dead. It has to be broken through for planting and trenching, and it blocks drainage.
~10″ of rain a yearAlmost nothing survives unirrigated for the first two to three years here — including natives. Irrigation isn’t optional.
Monsoon burstsA large share of annual rainfall arrives in short, violent storms. Grading and drainage aren’t decorative in this floodplain.
Watering restrictionsApril–September the city limits watering days and hours. Systems must complete their cycle inside that window.

Las Cruces Landscaping Questions

The things homeowners ask before they book a site visit.

What landscaping services do you offer in Las Cruces?
Xeriscaping, rock landscaping, artificial turf, sod installation, hardscaping and irrigation, all designed for Las Cruces conditions. Most yards here combine two or three of them: rock or xeriscape over most of the ground, drip irrigation underneath, and hardscaping where people actually sit and walk.
How much does landscaping cost in Las Cruces?
Basic rock and drip work runs about $4 to $8 per square foot, a standard xeriscape $6 to $14, and hardscape-heavy designs $25 to $45. A full new irrigation system with four to six zones runs $2,500 to $6,500. Our cost guide breaks every service down by yard size.
Do you charge for an estimate?
No. The site visit and the itemised written estimate are free. Prep, materials, plants, irrigation and hardscape are priced separately, with the caliche contingency stated up front rather than added later.
Which service should I start with?
Grading, drainage and irrigation first, because those are the expensive things to retrofit once rock, turf or pavers are down. Visible work can be phased over seasons without wasting any of the earlier spend.
Do you work on small jobs or only full yards?
Both. A single irrigation repair, one planting bed or a rock refresh are normal jobs here, and so is a complete front and back yard build.
Which parts of Las Cruces do you serve?
All of Las Cruces, including Sonoma Ranch and the East Mesa. Every yard gets planned around its own soil, slope and watering constraints rather than a template.
